MSCAPES was founded on a simple but powerful idea: outdoor hospitality could be more intentional, more immersive, and more design-forward than the industry standard. What began as a creative exploration of luxury glamping has grown into a full-scale production and experience-focused business that helps shape how people connect with nature in a more meaningful way. With deep roots in traditional hospitality and a sharp eye for design, MSCAPES brings together sourcing, mass production, and experience-driven thinking to deliver turn-key solutions for owners and operators across the country.
At the heart of MSCAPES is the belief that outdoor hospitality should be just as intentional and impactful as any high-end indoor experience. The team thinks experience-first, not just how a structure looks, but how it feels, how it functions, and what guests walk away remembering. From luxury tents and micro-cabin structures to fully custom solutions, MSCAPES collaborates closely with architects, financial partners, and advisors to translate vision into reality.

Q&A with Steve Tipton, CMO at MSCAPES
Background
Tell us a bit about your company’s history:
Mscapes was founded on the idea that outdoor hospitality could be more intentional, immersive, and design-forward. What started as a creative exploration of luxury glamping has grown into a full-scale production and experience-focused business. At the core, we’re focused on shaping how people connect with nature in a more meaningful way.
What inspired you to work in outdoor hospitality?
Honestly, outdoor hospitality found us. Our background was in traditional hospitality—we were focused on interior finishes for hotels. Over time, clients started asking us about outdoor hospitality—what it was and whether we could help with it. That curiosity led us to start digging in and learning the space.
As we explored it more, we realized a lot of what we already knew—sourcing, mass production, design—translated really well. What started with interiors naturally expanded into exteriors, and we’ve grown alongside the industry from there.
Services and Expertise
What services do you offer, and what sets your approach apart?
We offer end-to-end outdoor hospitality design and experience development. That can include anything from structures in our existing line to fully custom solutions—it really depends on the client and the site. We always start by understanding the vision and what will actually work in that specific environment.
From there, we collaborate with architects, Sage Outdoor Advisory, financial partners, and others to bring the project together. We also offer interior packages, furniture solutions, and modular pod options to help simplify the build process. Through our partnership with Flatspot, we provide decking and installation, along with exterior furnishings and outdoor kitchen elements to round out the experience.
What sets us apart is that we think about the experience first. It’s not just about how something looks—it’s about how it feels, how it functions, and what the guest walks away remembering. Every decision ties back to that.
How do you address current trends in the industry?
We pay close attention to where the industry is going—especially around experiential travel, wellness, and nature-based luxury. But instead of just chasing trends, we try to translate them into something that will last and actually work for the client long-term.
A lot of that shows up in the details—interior packages, expanded structure options, spa and wellness elements, outdoor living features. We also stay connected to the traditional hospitality world to see what’s working there and how it can carry over. Even though the setting is different, the expectation from guests is often the same.
Projects and Achievements
What’s a standout project your team has worked on?
It’s honestly hard to pick just one. Every project we work on is different, and that’s what we enjoy most. Each site, each client, and each vision brings something new, and that’s what makes this industry so interesting.
What outcomes do your clients achieve with your help?
A big one is clarity. A lot of our clients are entering outdoor hospitality for the first time, so we help them understand the space and navigate the unknowns.
We also help solve problems that are pretty specific to each project, align everyone involved, and keep things moving forward. In the end, that leads to stronger concepts, better guest experiences, and projects that are set up to succeed.
Sage x MSCAPES Partnership
How has your partnership with Sage Outdoor Advisory impacted your work?
Sage brings a really strong strategic and operational perspective that complements what we do on the design side. Their work around feasibility, land analysis, and performance metrics—like rates and revenue potential—helps make sure what we’re creating actually works in the real world.
It gives our clients more confidence knowing there’s solid data behind the vision.
What do you enjoy most about collaborating with us?
There’s just a natural alignment. We both care about doing things the right way—being intentional, thinking long-term, and helping move the industry forward.
It’s a true collaboration where design and strategy support each other, which ultimately leads to better outcomes for everyone involved.
Looking Ahead
How do you see your role in shaping the future of outdoor hospitality?
We see ourselves helping push the industry toward more thoughtful, experience-driven destinations. It’s not just about places to stay anymore—it’s about creating something people actually remember.
We want to be part of setting a higher standard—whether that’s through design, the types of accommodations being built, or how everything comes together. There’s still a lot of room to grow in this space, and that’s what makes it exciting.
